Nicotinamide Riboside

Nicotinamide Riboside (NR)

Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) is a form of vitamin B3 that acts as a building block of NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). NAD is an important molecule that is involved in cellular energy production (ATP) and DNA repair in experimental models.

Researchers have observed that NR may increase the levels of NAD in preclinical models. Preliminary studies have indicated that every cell requires NAD to produce energy in research models.

Chemical Properties

Working Mechanism of Nicotinamide Riboside

Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) may work by increasing the NAD levels in research models. NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) levels may decline in research models over a certain period of time.

When it enters the experimental models, NR converts into nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) by riboside kinases (NRKs). After that, it changes into NAD through a series of enzymatic reactions.

NAD is one of the essential molecules. Researchers have observed that NAD helps with cellular energy production.

Furthermore, it has been shown to activate proteins like sirtuins and PARPs. The aforementioned proteins are involved in DNA repair, stress resistance, and cellular longevity in research models.

Potential Benefits and Side Effects of Nicotinamide Riboside

There is very limited research on NR. However, so far, the research has indicated the following benefits and side effects of NR in different experimental models under controlled lab settings.

NR| Potential Benefits

• May improve cardiovascular health in research models
• It may help with anti-aging in preclinical models.
• May support neurodegenerative health in experimental models
• May help with inflammation in research models

NR| Side Effects

• May cause nausea in research models
• Hot flashes are observed in research models
• May cause abdominal pain in research subjects

FAQs

Is nicotinamide riboside safe?

Yes, nicotinamide riboside has been observed to be safe in research models at doses around 300 mg/day.

Is nicotinamide riboside FDA-approved?

While generally recognizing it as safe (GRAS) as a dietary ingredient. The FDA has yet to approve nicotinamide riboside as a medicine for human use.

What is the best time to take nicotinamide riboside in research models?

The best time to take NR, as observed by researchers in preclinical studies, is in the morning.

Does nicotinamide riboside have to do anything with sleep in preclinical studies?

Yes, in different research settings, the NR has been shown to boost the NAD levels. This, in turn, improved sleep quality in experimental models.
